Clothing Care Guide
Taking care of your clothing properly means it looks better, lasts longer, and keeps its shape and colour wash after wash. Here's our complete care guide for every fabric type in the Waran Wear range.
General Care Rules
- Always check the care label inside your garment before washing.
- Wash inside out to protect colour, prints, and fabric finishes.
- Use a gentle, colour-safe detergent — avoid bleach unless specified.
- Wash similar colours together to prevent colour transfer.
- Air dry where possible — heat is the enemy of most fabrics.
- Never iron directly on prints or embellishments.
Cotton & Heavyweight Cotton
Applies to: T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, long sleeve shirts
- Wash at 30–40°C on a normal or gentle cycle.
- Wash inside out to preserve colour and prevent pilling.
- Tumble dry on low heat or air dry flat to maintain shape.
- Iron on a medium heat inside out if needed.
- Avoid high heat — it causes shrinkage in cotton garments.
Mineral Wash & Vintage Wash Garments
Applies to: Mineral wash sweatshirts, vintage wash tees, snow-washed styles
- Wash inside out on a cool cycle (30°C or below) to preserve the wash finish.
- Avoid bleach or harsh detergents — they strip the treatment faster.
- Air dry where possible; tumble dry on low if needed.
- Expect slight further fading over time — this is normal and adds to the character of the garment.
- Do not dry clean.
Fleece
Applies to: Fleece hoodies, fleece sweatshirts, half-zip fleece styles
- Wash on a cool, gentle cycle (30°C).
- Wash separately or with similar fabrics — avoid washing with rough materials like denim that can cause surface pilling.
- Do not use fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces the fleece's softness over time.
- Air dry flat or tumble dry on a very low heat setting.
- Do not iron fleece directly — use a cool iron on the reverse if needed.
Performance & Sportswear Fabrics
Applies to: Activewear, sportswear, moisture-wicking styles
- Wash on a cool cycle (30°C) — high heat degrades performance fabrics over time.
- Do not use fabric softener — it coats moisture-wicking fibres and reduces their effectiveness.
- Air dry where possible. Tumble dry on low is fine for most styles — check the label.
- Wash inside out to protect any technical finishes or prints.
- Wash after every wear to prevent odour build-up in performance fabrics.
Delicate Fabrics (Camis, Crop Tops, Lightweight Styles)
Applies to: Camisoles, lightweight crop tops, ribbed styles
- Hand wash or use a gentle machine cycle (30°C) in a mesh laundry bag.
- Do not wring — gently press out excess water.
- Air dry flat — hanging can stretch delicate fabrics out of shape.
- Avoid tumble drying, which can cause shrinkage and distortion.
- Iron on a very low heat if needed, inside out.
Outerwear (Coats & Jackets)
Applies to: Coats, jackets, outer layers
- Check the care label — outerwear varies widely in care requirements.
- Spot clean where possible to extend time between full washes.
- Hang on a proper hanger to maintain shape between wears.
- Store in a breathable garment bag during off-season months.
- Some styles may require professional dry cleaning — always check the label.
Storage Tips
- Fold knitwear and heavy sweatshirts rather than hanging — hanging can cause them to stretch at the shoulders.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- Use cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths in storage.
- Ensure garments are clean before storing for the season — stains set over time and attract insects.
